Borrowing, Returning & Renewing
Patrons are limited to borrowing up to 30 items at a time with some limits.

Children’s Department
Access materials and programs specifically for kids and attend Preschool Story Time.

Get a Library Card
All individuals with Virginia Residency are eligible for a Portsmouth Public Library card.

Hold Requests / ILLs
When all the copies of an item are checked out to other patrons or if they are only available at an inconvenient location, you can place a hold request, which puts you on a waiting list for the item.

To give our Patrons access the knowledge of their rights under the law Portsmouth Public Library is making available the Westlaw Patron Access eLearning resource center. These resources will help you navigate the Westlaw System found on all Portsmouth Library computers and teach you to find the information you need, all free of charge
